San Francisco 49ers Dre Greenlaw Offers Update On Devastating Super Bowl Injury Recovery
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw was fired up to the in the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, his game ended early due to a freak injury. While running on the field during a possession change, he tore his Achilles and was done for the game and likely most of next season. He now is on the long road to recovery. Greenlaw, along with other 49ers, made an appearance at an offseason event, and he offered an update on his injury recovery.

San Francisco 49ers Dre Greenlaw On Injury Recovery

Dre Greenlaw attended a Dwight Clark legacy event along with many other current and past San Francisco 49ers. He was asked what his recovery has been like, and he gave a positive update.

“It’s a long, slow process. I’m feeling really, really good though. Happy to be able to walk on the stage actually.”

He went on to talk about how he had just recently gotten out of the walking boot and was beginning to build his strength back up. An Achilles injury is one that takes a lot of time to rehab. Trying to cut corners during the process could end in disaster. While Dre Greenlaw wants to be on the field, he doesn’t want to risk reaggravating the injury. We’ve seen players come back from this injury sooner than expected, but it seems while the recovery is going well, he still has a long way to go.

How Will This Impact The 49ers’ Defense?

It leaves a hole at the linebacker spot opposite Fred Warner. Currently, Curtis Robinson, Dee Winters, Jalen Graham, and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles are the other linebackers on the San Francisco 49ers roster. While these are fine players, none of them are to the level of Greenlaw. The good news for the team is there is star power all around the roster. Nick Bosa and Warner are still top players at their positions. While there could be small declines, this is still a premier unit.

It was great to see Dre Greenlaw up and walking around. The injury he sustained was devastating to watch for any fan. Getting injured in a freak incident like he did is never something fans want to see, even if they do not cheer for the San Francisco 49ers. Will we see Greenlaw this season?
