Latest Saints free agency report may doom a star player
Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Saints probably won't be overly active early in free agency. That being said, they are showing interest in a recently-released defensive back.

Free agent cornerback Avonte Maddox is visiting the Saints.

Maddox spent the first six seasons of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles. He totaled four interceptions and has reps in the slot and outside.

Additionally, this report also raises more questions regarding the future of Marshon Lattimore with the Saints.

There has been smoke about a potential Lattimore trade over the next couple of months, and adding Maddox would give New Orleans more depth at CB. Maddox could be their main slot CB and would allow Alontae Taylor to move back outside.

Reported tension between Lattimore and their coaching staff has been round since last season. Hopefully, they can push through that to keep one of their best talents in the building.

On multiple occasions, I have said that the Saints should not move Lattimore. He was playing some of the best ball of his career last season before suffering an injury. He is under contract for two more years.
