Indianapolis Colts Are A Trade Suitor For Star Defensive Back

The Indianapolis Colts are in need of some help in their secondary, and Cory Woodroof of USA Today thinks the New Orleans Saints could be a good place to look.

Woodroof thinks the Colts could represent a suitor for Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore, who is a rather expensive piece for New Orleans.

Lattimore has three years remaining on his deal, and while the Saints restructured his deal to save $11 million in cap space in 2024, he is still owed $16 million in 2025 and then $16.5 million in 2026.

Given that the Saints are very strapped financially, they may decide to move on with Lattimore as they slowly head toward a rebuild.

Lattimore has also been plagued by injuries over the past couple of seasons, as he played in just 17 games in 2022 and 2023, combined.

In 10 games this past year, Lattimore logged 48 tackles, an interception and eight passes defended.

The 27-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, was selected by New Orleans with the 11th overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Lattimore established himself as an elite corner right off the bat, registering 52 tackles, five picks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, 18 passes defended and a defensive touchdown in his rookie campaign, making the Pro Bowl and winning Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.

Overall, Lattimore has earned four Pro Bowl appearances, most recently making the trip in 2021 after he recorded 68 tackles, three interceptions, a fumble recovery and 19 passes defended.

The Colts did re-sign Kenny Moore II this offseason and they have 2023 second-round pick JuJu Brents, but they could certainly use some depth at cornerback. Lattimore would certainly fill that need for them.
