Eagles CB having 'cordial' reunion with Matt Patricia after fallout

When the Philadelphia Eagles made the decision to add Matt Patricia to their coaching staff as a senior defensive assistant this offseason, the obvious question was how that was going to fly with star cornerback Darius Slay after their fallout in Detroit.

So far, Slay said that his relationship with Patricia has been "cordial" and "just another day at the office" as they work together to achieve the same goal, per the Detroit Free Press

He had previously said he had lost all respect for Patricia following their time together with the Lions when Patricia was the team's head coach.

Leading up to this year's Super Bowl, Slay talked about his relationship with Patricia in Detroit and the disrespect he felt from his former coach. Slay claimed that Patricia told him he was not on the same level as other top-tier cornerbacks in the NFL even though he had already been selected to one Pro Bowl.

Patricia and the Lions eventually traded Slay to Philadelphia in 2020 where he has continued to be one of the top defensive backs in the NFL; He's also received four more Pro Bowl nods.

Now they are back working together in Philadelphia trying to win a Super Bowl.

This seems like the type of thing that should be pretty easy to work out. Patricia isn't the head coach, or even the defensive coordinator, and will not have the final say in anything that the Eagles defense does or what its roster looks like. Slay has also proven to be one of the best players in the league at his position and everybody in Philadelphia knows how valuable he is.

Patricia is a very good X's and O's coach but was clearly in over his head as a head coach in Detroit, not only as a game manager and roster builder but also when it came to dealing with people. Sometimes it works out that way for coaches.
