Bijan Robinson reveals the truth on what happened between him and Ohio State during his college recruitment

There was once a time that Atlanta Falcons RB Bijan Robinson was committed to Ohio State in college and not Texas.

Yes, you read that right.

Robinson spoke on the time that he was silently committed to okay in Columbus on a recent episode of Bussin’ With The Boys hosted by former NFL players Will Compton and Taylor Lewan.

“I silently committed to Ohio State for a week,” Robinson said. “Because there were people and players in my ear telling me, ‘You should go here. We’re gonna build a dynasty here. You’re gonna be amazing.’ Which, that could have been true. But I knew I could go to Texas for a 40-year decision, not just football, but I could become someone here, come back here, and feel like this was the place for me. That was the main decision. But (I was committed) for a week man, and I told the coaches that was the hardest decision I’ve ever made.”

Robinson ended up going to Texas and made the right choice. He is a talent that was likely an early pick in the NFL Draft no matter where he went. At Texas, the star running back was productive over his three seasons they’re totaling 3,410 yards over that span of time.

As a junior, Robinson turned in a season of 1,580 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. He was the best running back in the country and the thought of him being in a backfield with C.J. Stroud could have been a historically great offense in Columbus. Add in the receiving targets that the Buckeyes have had and it gets even better.

After likely committing too early and thinking it over, Robinson admitted that it wasn’t a great feeling having to let the coaching staff know that he was going to back off of his verbal.

“I committed on Monday, and now it’s Saturday. I called them, and I was like, ‘This isn’t the place for me.’ Having to say that to a grown man and be like, ‘What are you talking about? I sent all my other running backs away. You were the only one I was getting.’ … Man, it was crazy, it was tough to have that conversation as a 17-year-old kid. I was with my family, and they were like, ‘It’s OK. It’s OK.’”

The Buckeyes ended up taking Miyan Williams in the class of 2020, and then they took TreVeyon Henderson in 2021, who was the No. 1 running back in his class. Henderson has been good for Ohio State and has a chance to finish things out great with Quinshon Judkins sharing some totes as well.

Now Buckeyes fans just get to think about the possibility that was with Robinson being quietly committed to the Buckeyes a few years ago.
