NBA Insider Shares Crazy Story Of How A Loud Fart Connected Knicks Players Before Game 5
Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Knicks blew out the Indiana Pacers 121-91 in Game 5 of their second-round series on Tuesday and a fart seems to have played a role in it. As per Knicks insider Fred Katz, a player on the team released an "epic fart" in the locker room that loosened up everyone.

"There was an epic fart that loosened up the locker room a lot before the game," Katz said. “And I’m not going to say who it was ’cause I’m not going to embarrass the guy."

As you can imagine, the story quickly went viral on social media. Dan Le Batard wanted some more information on what went down and Katz obliged.

"Honestly, there was none," Katz said regarding any smell. "It was very loud... It was loud but proud."

"It was purely audio, as a matter of fact, when it happened it strung along for I would say a lot longer than one might expect for a fart of that volume and in that context," Katz stated. "... For the length and for volume is exactly why (it was epic).

"A few players looked over," Katz continued. "It actually didn't get a reaction audibly at all. It got pure silence and a look over to that one player and that one player looked around as if he was being inconspicuous and said with a completely straight face, 'Something's up with the pipes in here.' And that got the huge laugh."

(starts at 1:01 mark):

So, it was the lie that loosened up everyone else. I must admit I would have burst out laughing too if I had been in that locker room. While Katz didn't reveal who the player was, maybe Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart will on their podcast. Social media already thinks that Hart did it and that response is certainly something I can picture him giving.

The Knicks Continue To Impress Despite All The Injuries

That win in Game 5 over the Pacers meant the Knicks took a 3-2 lead in the series. They are now just one win away from getting to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000. Considering all the injuries they've had, that would be an incredible achievement.

Julius Randle has been on the sidelines since January due to a dislocated shoulder and has been ruled out for the season. Randle was an All-Star in 2023-24, and the Knicks certainly could have done well with having him around.

Mitchell Robinson had spent a fair bit of the season on the sidelines due to an ankle problem but did return in time for the playoffs. Robinson injured that ankle again in the postseason, though, and has been ruled out for the season.

Bojan Bogdanovic is another who has been ruled out for the season. Bogdanovic got tangled up with Nicolas Batum in the first round and injured his left foot. He needed surgery and will be out of action for a while.

The last notable absentee is OG Anunoby. Unlike the other three, Anunoby hasn't been ruled out for the season just yet but there still isn't clarity on when he might be back from his hamstring injury. Anunoby won't be available for Game 6 against the Pacers and I hope he can come back at the earliest.

With all these big names missing, Brunson has had to carry a huge load and he has delivered. The 27-year-old is averaging 33.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 7.5 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.2 blocks per game in these playoffs and it will be interesting to see just how far he can take the Knicks.
