White Sox Reportedly Had a Choice Between Dominic Fletcher & Jake McCarthy
Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

New information has emerged regarding the Diamondbacks’ trade with the White Sox last week, involving Dominic Fletcher heading to Chicago and Cristian Mena heading to Arizona.

According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the White Sox had the option to choose between Dominic Fletcher and Jake McCarthy.

McCarthy, a former 1st round pick of the Diamondbacks, appeared in 99 games last season, concluding the year with a .243 batting average and .644 OPS. These numbers represented a slight decline compared to his rookie season.

However, given the Diamondbacks’ outfield depth, which includes Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Corbin Carroll, Alek Thomas, and Joc Pederson or Pavin Smith if needed, McCarthy’s role in Arizona appears uncertain.

Although McCarthy was called up to assist the Diamondbacks during the final stretch of last season, he spent significant time in Triple-A. With the Reno Aces, the 26-year-old excelled, boasting a .360 batting average and a 1.01 OPS.

In contrast, Dominic Fletcher, also 26 years old, has far less MLB experience. Fletcher played just 28 games with the Diamondbacks during his rookie season in 2023. Both players operate in the outfield.

Stay tuned for further updates.
