Jake McCarthy is on a hitting spree down in Triple-A Reno
Albert Cesare/The Enquirer / USA TODAY NETWORK

You’ve likely heard this before: Jake McCarthy is currently knocking the cover off the ball with the Reno Aces.

McCarthy, who posed a challenge for opposing pitchers last season, has had a roller-coaster year in 2023, shuttling between the Diamondbacks and the Aces three times.

The Diamondbacks 2018 1st-round pick originally made the opening day roster, however, after an early rough month (.143 BA) he was quickly demoted to the Aces in late April.

This set off a recurring pattern.

Most recently, after his August 16th demotion to the minors, McCarthy has found his offensive groove once again. Over the past few weeks, he’s posted a remarkable .477 batting average, scored 20 runs (with at least one run in every game during this period), and recorded 10 RBIs.

In recognition of his performance, the 26-year-old was named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week

The last time McCarthy went on a similar tear at the plate was back in late May. He was then called back up to play for the Diamondbacks.

It seems that history is about to repeat itself, as the Diamondbacks look to add another potent bat with the season coming to an end.
