Giants trade utilityman Mauricio Dubon to Astros for C/1B Michael Papierski

The Houston Astros acquired utility player Mauricio Dubón in a trade with the San Francisco Giants, who will receive minor league catcher and first baseman Michael Papierski in return, the teams announced.

Dubón, 27, was acquired by the Giants in a 2019 trade with the Milwaukee Brewers and he appeared in 177 games for San Francisco over the last four seasons. He's batting .239 this season with two home runs and eight RBI over 49 plate appearances. In the field, the versatile Dubón has played at second base, third base, shortstop and in center field.

Papierski, 26, hasn't yet made his major league debut and has spent the last two seasons with the Triple-A Sugar Land Space Cowboys. He's batting .211 this season with 15 RBI. Papierski played catcher in 11 games, first baseman in nine, and designated hitter in six.

The Astros are the hottest team in MLB right now with 11 consecutive wins. While Dubón hasn't been stellar at the plate, he could offer the team an upgrade from Aledmys Díaz, who has been the team's utility player in 2022. Díaz is batting .191 and has played at first base, second base, third base, shortstop and left field this season.

San Francisco is 20-12 and on a six-game winning streak of its own.
