Ex-Cardinals Star Hints Chances Rising To Rejoin Club In Some Capacity This Offseason

The St. Louis Cardinals have one big decision to make involving a former star. 

Longtime Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina retired at the end of the 2022 campaign but hasn't been far away from the team. There have been rumblings that Molina could be back in some capacity as a coach this upcoming season. Although cold water was thrown on the idea recently, the 10-time All-Star actually made it sound like a move is much more likely in a recent interview with WKAQ 580.

"There is something cooking," Molina said. "I have had various offers in the United States last year with (the Miami Marlins) and St. Louis. This year I have offers too. I think there is something cooking with St. Louis. There is a 90 percent chance that it happens. They are decisions that someone must take in the future. I see myself managing, coaching in the United States for a few years. I like it. I am a guy that is fascinated with baseball, and I am passionate about it. To have an opportunity like that I cannot pass." 

It sure sounds like Molina wants to be back in the organization this upcoming season. This isn't too surprising. St. Louis had its worst season in recent memory in 2023 and won just 71 games. Molina played 19 seasons with the Cardinals and was a leader within the organization. If he wants to return, it makes sense to give him a shot in some capacity. Plus, if Molina was brought into the fold as a coach he could work with catcher Willson Contreras. 

It sounds like a move could actually happen but we'll just have to wait and see.
