Cardinals Fans Celebrate An Important Anniversary
Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

Chris Carpenter is remembered as one of the finest pitchers in the history of the St. Louis Cardinals.

The right-hander pitched several great games in a Cardinals uniform, with some of the most notable being Game 3 of the 2006 World Series and Game 5 of the 2011 NLDS.

Carpenter was the ace on both the ’06 and ’11 World Series teams.

But his best season in Cardinal Red came in 2005, in the final year of the Old Busch Stadium.

That season, Carpenter won the National League Cy Young Award, winning 21 games and posting a 2.83 ERA in 33 starts, becoming the first Cardinals pitcher to win the award since Bob Gibson in 1970.

Cards Fans Remember Carp

Carpenter was a fan favorite in St. Louis.

Unfortunately, a good chunk of his time as a Cardinal was marred by injuries.

But his competitive spirit is one that lives on in Cardinals history, and a mentality he helped instill in his protege, Adam Wainwright, who has become a franchise legend in his own right.

Carpenter was with the Cardinals from 2003-2013.

He missed 2003 due to an arm injury, but returned in 2004 and emerged as a frontline starter.

Carpenter was a three-time All-Star during his time in St. Louis.

He also won Game 7 of the 2011 World Series against the Texas Rangers, throwing six innings and allowing just two runs.

But 2005 was his peak season.

Carpenter had truly established himself as an ace and somebody that the Cardinals could count on in big games.

Carpenter was inducted into the Cardinals Hall of Fame in 2016.
