Blue Jays Taking A Chance On Former All-Star

Former World Series Champion Dexter Fowler is on his way to the Toronto Blue Jays.

This morning, Fowler and the Blue Jays agreed to terms on a minor league deal with an invite to big league camp.

After being acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals, Fowler only played in seven games last season for the Los Angeles Angels, as he tore his ACL early in the season, which caused him to miss the remainder of 2021.

His last true full season was in 2019 with the Cardinals.

Though he only hit for a .238 average, Fowler popped 19 homers and drove in 67 runs and was a key contributor to St. Louis’ run to the NLCS.

Fowler Hoping For Redemption

If Fowler can get healthy, he can still be a solid player and put up some good numbers.

It’s possible that he could end up finding a spot on the Blue Jays’ roster at some point in 2022, especially after the Randal Grichuk trade.

Drafted by the Colorado Rockies in 2004, Fowler made his debut in 2008 and stayed with Colorado until 2014, when he had a brief stint with the Houston Astros.

He spent two seasons with the Chicago Cubs and was a major part of the Cubs’ curse-breaking World Series championship team, hitting a leadoff homer in Game 7 of the series.

Again, the key for Fowler is staying healthy.

When he’s healthy, he can still be an impactful player.

After the injury last season, Fowler, 36, made no indication that he wanted to retire.

Now he has a chance to regain his footing and make an impact in Toronto.

We’ll see if the move works out for the Blue Jays and if he can stay healthy.
