3 key takeaways from Eagles rookie minicamp

The Philadelphia Eagles wrapped up rookie minicamp over the weekend.

It was the first time that the nine players the Eagles selected from the 2024 NFL Draft and the seven undrafted free agents they signed were able to show off in front of the entire Eagles coaching staff.

Veteran wide receiver A.J. Brown and left tackle Jordan Mailata also popped in to offer some guidance and check on things.

In case you missed the biggest headlines from the weekend, below are three takeaways from the Eagles' rookie minicamp:

1. Quinyon Mitchell Turned Heads

According to several reports, Eagles first-round pick Quinyon Mitchell turned heads during camp with how smooth he looked.

And it sounds like he's already earned head coach Nick Sirianni's stamp of approval.

"You saw the burst and quickness that we saw on tape of why we drafted him in the first round," Sirianni told reporters. "Made a couple of nice plays on the ball today out there with some 7-on-7 speed."

Mitchell is a projected Day 1 starter so the fact that he is already putting on shows at practices in a t-shirt and shorts is a good sign for the Eagles secondary.

2. Cooper DeJean Lined Up EVERYWHERE

Eagles second-round pick Cooper DeJean is being used just like he was in college, as a Swiss army knife.

DeJean told reporters he lined up "everywhere" at rookie minicamp.

That means he lined up as an outside cornerback, in the slot, and at safety.

The Eagles currently have a crowded cornerback room, but DeJean could land himself a key role in the slot or at safety if this offseason goes well.

3. Eagles Signed Jordan Mailata 2.0

Of the seven undrafted free agents that the Eagles signed, perhaps the most intriguing is Australian rugby player Laekin Vakalahi.

Vakalahi has never played American football, except for a free trial of Madden.

That counts, right?

In all seriousness, he's almost identically built like Mailata and is just as athletic.

If anyone can teach a big man like that the fundamentals of the game, it's Stoutland University.
