Tyronn Lue reacts to rumors regarding Lakers' coaching search
LA Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Lakers face a dilemma where they need to make some drastic changes or the team could lose LeBron James in the process. One way to potentially elevate the Lakers roster is by changing the head coach who’s drawing up the team’s schematics.

With the Lakers deciding to move on from Darvin Ham, the question now lies on who’ll take over the mantle. One name being mentioned in the Lakers' coaching sweepstakes: Los Angeles Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue.

It’s understandable why Lue is looked upon favorably by the Lakers, as he has experience working with superstars and can create superb schematics to help the team make the playoffs.

Lue has since addressed the rumors that he’s in the running for Ham’s replacement for the Purple and Gold.

Tyronn Lue shares thoughts on possibly coaching the Los Angeles Lakers

Lue was asked about his coaching future after the Mavericks eliminated his Clippers after a tense six-game series. He made it clear that he wants to stay on the blue side of Crypto.com Arena for the foreseeable future.

Per The Spun’s Andrew Gould:

“I didn’t come here to bounce around and go all over the place,” Lue said. “Mr. (Steve) Ballmer, Lawrence (Frank), Mark (Hughes), and Trent (Redden) have all been great to me. This is where I want to be. Hopefully, they feel the same way.”

While he also acknowledged that he finds the Lakers’ interest in him flattering, he’s all in on building the Clippers into a contender for years to come:

“That’s a really good feeling,” Lue said. “But like I said, I want to be here, and hopefully we’ll able to solidify that.”

There’s one clear reason why Lue would consider coaching for the Lakers. He won in his first year of coaching as the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ legendary 2016 championship team. Teaming up with LeBron James to chase another championship would be a dream scenario.

However, Lue is being realistic when it comes to his opportunities. With LeBron’s future in the Lakers still uncertain, it’s a good move for him to keep his cards close to his chest.
