'Well, I am No. 1,' Iga Swiatek exuberant and confident about her chances at 2024 Roland Garros after her title win in Rome

Polish tennis ace Iga Swiatek won one more title on clay as she beat Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka in the final of the 2024 Rome Masters. The World No. 1 beat her opponent in straight sets and clinched her third Rome Masters title. Now, Swiatek is focused on winning the title in Paris.

The 22-year-old is pretty confident about her chances. When Swiatek was asked in the post-game press conference on Saturday if she considered herself the favorite at the 2024 Roland Garros, the Polish ace said she is a favorite in every tournament she plays. She highlighted the fact that being the top-ranked player in the world, she is expected to win in every tournament she plays.

The Polish ace was quick to point out that rankings don’t play a part during the match and hence she will take everything step-by-step. Notably, Swiatek is the defending champion at the 2024 French Open, having won the title last year after beating Karolina Muchova.

After winning the title in Rome, Iga Swiatek is confident about her chances at the 2024 French Open. When the Polish ace was asked about how confident she was, Swiatek gave a mature reply. She said that while she is quite confident about her chances, she cannot overlook the fact that it is a Grand Slam tournament and the seven matches are going to be tough for her.

Swiatek said that she needs to stay humble and take everything step-by-step. The 22-year-old also pointed out that she is not taking anything for granted.

Well, obviously I am confident. I feel like I'm playing great tennis. But it doesn't change the fact that I really want to stay humble and really focused on getting everything step by step. Grand Slams are different. There is different pressure on the court and off the court...These are hard seven matches that you need to win, so I don't take anything for granted. I'll just work hard as I did in Madrid and Rome and we'll see. Iga Swiatek said

Notably, Iga Swiatek has an incredible record at the French Open. The Polish ace has won three of her four Grand Slam titles in Paris. Swiatek has managed to reach at least pre-quarterfinals in every edition of the French Open she has played so far. She enters the 2024 edition as a double-defending champion.
